Why learn Dutch as a software engineer?

Not every tech company is fully English

At international scale-ups, English really is the working language. But at banks, insurers, government-adjacent IT organisations and more traditional companies, tickets, internal documentation and stakeholder conversations often still run in Dutch.

🏦

Dutch-first organisations

Banks, insurers and government-adjacent IT often have Dutch-language tickets, requirements and internal wikis — even when the team itself is international.

🪜

Dutch matters more as you grow

For a junior dev role, English often gets you far. As you move into a tech lead role or into client/stakeholder contact, you're increasingly expected to hold your own in Dutch.

🎯

What level do you need?

  • A2 — informal conversations with colleagues
  • B1 — joining in standups and retros
  • B2 — presentations and client conversations
  • C1 — leading a team in Dutch

🗂️ A quick taster

Dutch tech words you probably already know

Many Dutch tech terms are closer than you think — a small sample.

opleveringdelivery
verzoekticket / request
terugkoppelingfeedback
storingincident / outage
doorontwikkeleniterate / build further
overdrachthandover

This kind of vocabulary comes back in your lessons, alongside the standup and sprint terms you'll actually use.

How does the approach work?

Focused on the tech workplace

Practical, flexible, and with vocabulary you'll actually use in standups, code reviews and at the coffee machine.

🗣️

Speaking from day one

Introducing yourself, coffee machine chats, informal standup updates — we practise situations you'll recognise right away.

💻

Tech vocabulary & jargon

Standups, sprints, code reviews, retros and incident conversations — practised with words you encounter daily at work.

✍️

Homework with personal feedback

Writing tasks are practised at home, with detailed feedback — so every lesson minute goes to speaking and active learning.

🕐

Flexible scheduling around sprints

Lessons adapt to your sprint planning and on-call duties. Free rescheduling up to 12 hours in advance.

📈

Personal learning plan

No standard course. We determine together which level and pace fits your role and goals — and build the lessons around that.
