At A2 you learn the basics. At B1/B2 you need to combine those basics into longer, more natural sentences, master the same topics in more depth, and expand your vocabulary significantly — and that requires five specific focus areas.
When do you use hebben and when zijn? And which verbs have an irregular past participle? This is one of the most common sources of mistakes at this level — and one of the easiest to fix structurally.

As your sentences get longer — with subordinate clauses, time expressions and connective words — getting the word order right becomes essential for a natural, understandable sentence.
See explanation & exercises →Dutch uses the passive voice more often than you may be used to from your native language, especially in formal or written Dutch. Without it, your Dutch quickly sounds too direct or too informal for a B1/B2 level.
Daarom, hoewel, doordat, terwijl, ondanks dat, zodat — with the right connective words you go from short, disconnected sentences to coherent, natural language. This is exactly what makes the difference between A2 and B1/B2 level.
At B1, the same kinds of topics from A2 come back, but in more depth and with more nuance. Familiar themes are consolidated — you go deeper into each one — and your vocabulary expands significantly, so you can express yourself more precisely and with more variety.
